The Courage to Be Disliked

by TongPik Ha 22 May 2026

In today's society, women face many challenges and pressures on their journey toward self-realization. From a young age, they are taught to be docile, gentle, and obedient, a traditional concept deeply rooted in the hearts of many women. This often prevents them from expressing themselves freely in interactions with others, and they tend to silently endure or suppress their voices even when faced with dissenting opinions. This state not only affects their self-worth but also becomes a significant obstacle to their pursuit of their true selves.

From a metaphysical perspective, each person's life is a unique individual. This means that no matter how hard we try to please others, we ultimately cannot change our essence. If women can approach this from this viewpoint, they might be able to re-examine the meaning of "being disliked."

Firstly, all things in the world are interconnected. In this universe, each of us has a unique value. When women habitually accommodate others and suppress themselves, they are essentially denying their own life's value. Such denial not only leads to inner anxiety but also creates tension in relationships with others. Only when women bravely express themselves can they truly establish harmonious relationships with others.

"The Courage to Be Disliked," as the name suggests, means daring to face others' evaluations and opinions and not changing one's own values because of others' approval. With the advent of the Lower Nine Cycles, when women can bravely express their opinions and feelings, they are not only defending their rights but also speaking for their souls.

This courage is not cultivated overnight. Women need to undergo inner cultivation, gradually learn to accept their uniqueness, and, based on this, bravely present themselves. This process may be accompanied by discomfort and conflict, as not everyone can understand or accept such changes. However, it is precisely these challenges that offer opportunities for women's growth and maturity.

The appearance of "Guan Sha" in the Eight Characters (Bazi) symbolizes pressure and challenges. These challenges are not entirely negative; if utilized properly, they can facilitate an elevation in life's hierarchy and the acquisition of corresponding social status. When facing challenges, women can not only demonstrate inner resilience but also find opportunities for growth amidst adversity.

There are many ways to live life, but the most challenging is undoubtedly to walk through life amidst storms. Just like a red rose, it can still bloom with its own beauty, live authentically, and make life more exciting despite various challenges and periods of being disliked. This is not only an affirmation of self-worth but also a profound understanding of the meaning of life. Women should not let others' thoughts dictate their lives; instead, they should create a beautiful life through their own thoughts.
