Understand the essence of marriage, master your life choices

by TongPik Ha 22 May 2026

I recently watched the movie "The Sauce Garden" and lamented the struggles, helplessness, and tragic outburst of women in old times under the shackles of marriage, which is truly regrettable. The oppression and despair suffered by Zhan Zhoushi was a microcosm of the fate of countless women at that time – they were often powerless, lacked a clear understanding of their own situation, let alone the right to choose and resist. The tide of the times is surging forward, and modern women have unprecedented autonomy. However, marriage, as an important dimension of life, its quality, whether it is a help or a drain, still profoundly affects women's happiness and achievements.

How can one foresee the essential impact a marriage might have? Will it be a journey of mutual growth and nourishment, or a difficult path of exhaustion and burden? Or perhaps, for some destinies, "not getting married" might be a wiser choice, one that is more conducive to self-realization?

In Bazi, the favorable and unfavorable aspects of the Husband Star and the Day Branch are particularly important for one's life. When the Officer-Demon Star (Guan Sha star) is a "favorable god" in the birth chart, it means that the energy of the Husband Star is actively beneficial to the native. If the Zheng Guan (Direct Officer) or Qi Sha (Seven Killings) appears as a favorable god in the Heavenly Stems or Earthly Branches, and is not severely clashed, harmed, or punished, it indicates that one can meet a spouse who is relatively well-off, capable, or can provide substantial support. Zheng Guan represents stability, responsibility, and status, while Qi Sha represents courage, ability, and enterprise.

However, when the Officer-Demon Star becomes an "unfavorable god" or "enemy god" in the birth chart, it indicates that it is detrimental and unbearable for the native, leading to marital difficulties and significant pressure in the marriage. If the Officer-Demon Star is excessively strong and uncontrolled in the chart, one may encounter a spouse who is overbearing, dictatorial, controlling, or brings immense pressure. More severely, if Qi Sha is an unfavorable god without control in the Bazi, it may manifest as violent tendencies, extreme personality, or serious health problems. Marriage can easily lead to personal interests being harmed, personal development being restricted, and can bring financial losses, debt burdens, and career setbacks.

At the same time, the auspiciousness or inauspiciousness of the Day Branch represents the spouse palace, which is the most direct and core palace for examining marital relationships. The state of the Day Branch's auspiciousness or inauspiciousness has a decisive impact on marital happiness. If the spouse palace is an auspicious deity, it means that the spouse himself or his family conditions, personality traits, are beneficial and helpful to the native. Both husband and wife can easily establish a deep emotional connection, understanding, tolerance, and mutual support. Even if there are occasional disputes, they are easier to resolve and do not easily damage the fundamental relationship.

Conversely, if the spouse palace is an inauspicious deity, it indicates that the spouse himself or his personality, interaction patterns, or the life state brought by the marriage will bring pressure, trouble, or depletion. Moreover, there will be significant differences in values between the couple, poor communication, and it is easy to generate fundamental conflicts and oppositions, often leading to feelings of suppression, grievance, misunderstanding, or being dragged down.

The movie "The Sauce Garden" is a bloody accusation from women of the old era; women in the past could only passively endure the shackles of marriage. In modern society, decoding through Bazi can allow women to have the right to choose in advance.
